| Industrial Rope Access reduces the costs of PMI requirements. |
| "Positive Material Identification (PMI) is a methodology for assuring the nominal compositions of all the alloy components in a process system are consistent with design specifications." It also generally refers to non-destructive testing to verify the proper alloy content for in high quality metals, like stainless steel, used for piping, valves fittings and pressure vessels. |

| Field Portable X-florescence (FP-XRF) analyzers are well suited for Industrial Rope Access. |
| A critical component of this methodology is to test in-service parts during plant operations. Incorrect parts can be detected and the correct parts ordered for replacement during the next plant shutdown. This form of testing is referred to a retrospective PMI, and hand held Field Portable X-ray fluorescence (FP-XRF) analyzers, deployed by industrial rope access technicians, have become the method of choice. |
X-ray fluorescence analysis is completely non destructive and requires little or no surface preparation. Today’s FP-XRF analyzers are lightweight; hand-held battery operated units that are well suited for Industrial Rope Access. Data is stored in the instrument and usually downloaded through a direct interface with the plant inspection department’s software. |

| Retro PMI inspection project via rope access. A real time X-ray imager is first used to locate welds through insulation, and then only the necessary insulation is removed to perform PMI using an FP-XRF analyzer. |
Typical testing times for FP-XRF units run from a few seconds to 20 seconds and require a minimal of surface preparation. With industrial rope access, our technicians can progress safely and efficiently through awkward and difficult to access PMI locations while minimizing costs and disruptions to operations. With traditional scaffolding the additional construction time and labor costs often negate the biggest potential advantages of modern hand held analyzers. |
